Exploration and Documentation of Tangible Heritage of Sambalpur
Sambalpur is dotted with several heritage buildings and cemeteries. But these monuments are in bad state. These buildings are lying neglected. Many people are not even aware of their existence and importance. Due to the lack awareness and conservation, these priceless monuments are in ruined condition. Heritage awareness and documentation are the crucial part of any heritage conservation and management. Monuments here include temples, Monasteries, stepped-wells, Tirthas, Ghats, Forts, colonial buildings, cemeteries etc.
The protection, preservation, and access to cultural heritage are essential in society’s progress, sustenance, and development. Hence, special attention must be given to its proper conservation. However, storing of heritage collections in traditional mode is a costly affair because proper maintenance necessary in its preservation for a long period requires heavy investment in the form of infrastructure. Global availability of cultural, historical and scientific heritage of civilization allows for identity building, reconciliation, creativity, innovation, and many other activities that make societies more robust and prosperous. Today, technology and digitization in the realm of cultural heritage which involve social equity and are important topics of theoretical reflection. Therefore, the project aims to explore and document the tangible heritage of Sambalpur. It will provide clear picture of our heritage.
