About


Dr. Monalisa Mohapatra is a Professor in the School of Chemistry at Gangadhar Meher University, Sambalpur, Odisha, where she has been serving since 2023. She has an academic and research career spanning more than a decade, with expertise in physical and photophysical chemistry, fluorescence spectroscopy, and the development of fluorescence probes for organized media and soft matter systems. Dr. Mohapatra completed her B.Sc. from Ravenshaw College and her M.Sc. from Utkal University, Odisha. She obtained her Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras in 2011 under the supervision of Prof. A. K. Mishra. Following her doctoral studies, she pursued a three-year post-doctoral tenure at IIT Madras from 2011 to 2014, further strengthening her research expertise in physical and photophysical chemistry. She began her academic career as an Assistant Professor at Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla, where she served from 2014 to 2020. She subsequently joined Gangadhar Meher University, Sambalpur, as an Associate Professor in the School of Chemistry from 2020 to 2023, before assuming her present position as Professor in 2023. Her academic achievements have been recognized through several prestigious awards. She received the Prof. Langmuir Award for the Best Ph.D. Thesis in Physical and Theoretical Chemistry from IIT Madras in 2012. She was also awarded the Prof. R. K. Nanda Award by the Odisha Chemical Society in 2008. In addition, she received the Performance of Excellence/Best Poster Award from the Odisha State Higher Education Council (OSHEC), Government of Odisha, at the ORC Conclave in 2022 and 2023. She has qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) and the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in Chemistry. Dr. Mohapatra has been actively involved in research and has successfully completed several major and minor research projects. She has published research articles in national and international journals of repute, contributing to the advancement of research in the field of physical and photophysical chemistry. Her principal research interests include; Photophysical chemistry and fluorescence spectroscopy, Fluorescence probes for micro- and nanoscale organized media, Molecular interactions and photophysical processes in organized systems, Soft matter systems, Development and application of fluorescence-based probes. With a strong combination of teaching, research, and academic experience, Dr. Mohapatra continues to contribute to higher education and scientific research in chemistry, with particular emphasis on fluorescence-based approaches and photophysical studies of complex and organized systems.
